How social research is organised in government departments and devolved administrations

Working across 20 government departments, agencies and devolved administrations means that GSR members work in a wide variety of subject and policy areas.

Social research is also organised in different ways across government. There may be dedicated specialist teams responsible for research across a whole department. In other departments, small teams of social researchers may be integrated with groups or 'divisions' of analysts and policymakers that are responsible for particular policy areas.

Regardless of how they are organised, researchers in the Government Social Research service usually work closely with colleagues who develop and deliver the policies of the serving government, to ensure that their information needs are identified and met.
