GSRU sing-along
Members of the Government Social Research Unit (GSRU), Cabinet Office ventured out of Admiralty Arch to Age Concern's Sherborne Day Centre in Pimlico, London on 27 September, as part of the Cabinet Office Volunteering initiative.
GSRU's web manager led a group of about 30 regular visitors to the Centre through a medley of old-time songs, Beatles numbers, and a rendition of Bob Marley's 'No woman no cry' which was also very popular with the Centre's staff!
Colleagues from GSRU: Siobhan Benita, Rebecca Laffineur, Rob Reynolds, Maria Mistretta and Sarah Halls provided able backup. The Centre's regulars enjoyed listening, joining in, and chatting to the GSRU staff, who also took along cakes to accompany the afternoon tot of sherry!
John Scott Cree said:
'I was glad that colleagues were there to ensure good behaviour and that the audience had no white trainers. Perhaps The Beatles' 'When I'm 64' was a bit insensitive but they've asked us back to do another one!'
The visit ended in a rousing round of applause for GSRU and the day visitors then moved on to their regular bingo session.
Sherborne Day Centre is one of Age Concern's many centres around the country providing elderly people with help, support and companionship. More information is at www.ageconcern.org.uk.
