Wales appoints research chief

Angela Evans

Angela Evans

Angela Evans has been appointed as the Welsh Assembly Government's first ever Chief Social Research Officer. She will lead the Office of the Chief Social Research Officer and act as Head of Profession for research and evaluation staff across the Assembly Government.

She will have a key role to play in building stronger links with relevant research interests in universities and other bodies in Wales and elsewhere, and will represent the Assembly Government in the Cabinet Office's network of civil service social researchers - maintaining links with research in Whitehall and the other devolved administrations.

Angela has wide public sector research and policy development experience, having worked as a researcher with the Department of the Environment, a research/management consultant, and a senior specialist with the Audit Commission in Wales. More recently, she has project managed the review of the local government performance measurement framework in Wales.

She said: 'I'm delighted to be appointed Chief Social Research Officer at such an exciting and critical juncture for social research in Wales. The creation of this new post will help to raise the profile and impact of social research within the Assembly Government, building on the valuable work already being carried out. It also provides an important opportunity to forge and strengthen links with the wider research community in Wales.'

Angela will take up her post in early 2006.
