Joint ESRC and Departmental Collaborative Postgraduate Studentship Competition

The Economic and Social Research Council is increasingly working in collaboration with a variety of Government Departments to co-fund postgraduate studentships: ESRC and Department for Transport (ESRC/DfT); ESRC and the Scottish Executive (ESRC/SE); ESRC and the Welsh Assembly Government (ESRC/WAG); ESRC and the Department for Works and Pensions (ESRC/DWP); ESRC and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). For 2006, applications are invited for a range of Collaborative Studentships with the above-named departments, all of which provide an opportunity for researchers to work closely alongside government and to contribute evidence to the process of policy development and delivery. Proposals for co-funded 1+3/+3 Studentship Awards are invited from prospective supervisors based in ESRC Recognised Departments. Proposals should focus on one or more of the topics presented by the governmental department and the ESRC (please refer to the appropriate Annex on the website for further information). There will be no set limit on the number of projects an outlet can submit. Successful applicants will subsequently identify a suitable student to carry out the proposed research. Studentships will commence in October 2006. Contact details along with an application form are available on the ESRC website.

Applications should be submitted to the ESRC postmarked by 24th March 2006.
