GSRU Deputy Director, Phil Davies is guest editor of the latest edition of NSW Public Health Bulletin (Volume 16, Number 11-12) with the theme "Getting research into policy and practice." It has a number of substantive articles on how evidence has been used in policy and practice in NSW's public health. Phil, with Shelley Bowen, has used the Guest Editorial to try and capture what is known more generally about knowledge transfer and getting research into policy and practice, especially in the public health field. Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
publish The employment of social science PhDs in academic and non-academic
jobs: research skills and postgraduate training which evaluates the
needs of non-academic employers for highly skilled social scientists, and
the extent to which social science PhD-holders in such employment are using
the skills and knowledge developed during their doctorate.
Closing the Opportunity Gap (CtOG) Programme: Scoping Work for Design of Impact Assessment a scoping study to design a framework for evaluating the impact of CtOG, with particular emphasis on the six CtOG higher-level objectives and on CtOG aims as a whole.
Open access brings more citations: analysis of PNAS articles suggests that open access papers are cited more heavily than subscription-based articles - article in the Scientist
Statistics
Canada publish Juristat - detailed statistics and analysis on areas such
as: crime, homicide, youth and adult courts, and corrections. (website).
Statistics Canada publish: Educational outcomes at age 19 associated with reading ability at age 15. It uses data from two surveys to examine the relationship between reading ability at age 15 and educational outcomes, namely high school completion and post secondary participation.
Mathematica publish semi-monthly update.Contents include: Options for teacher pay for performance evaluations using natural experiments; New special issue of Parenting: Science and Practice looks at fathers and families.

of Demand Responsive Transport in Scotland - this research aims to
review evidence on DRT delivery including the contribution that DRT can
make to social inclusion and accessibility, the impact of the pilot DRT
schemes and recommendations on how future DRT schemes could be developed
in Scotland

31: Review of Strategies to Address Gender Inequalities in Scottish Schools
- the report provides findings of research including a substantial review
of the literature on gender inequalities in schools, information from local
authorities and schools on policy and practice in relation to gender, and
case study examples of strategies being used in schools aimed at addressing
gender inequalities. Also published is Review

Sustainable
Development: A Review of International Literature - a review of literature
and policy on a range of sustainable development issues. Individual topics
of the review are: sustainable development theory; food; procurement; consumption;
green jobs and enterprise; the built environment; environmental protection;
education; and environmental justice
Reducing
Reoffending: National Strategy for the Management of Offenders - the
first National Strategy for the Management of Offenders. The Strategy is
to cover the planning period to March 2008. A further three year strategy
will then take forward this work for the period 2008-11.

Public Transport for Disabled People: Volume I - Report - the purpose
of this research was to explore and assess a wide range of potential improvements
to public transport for disabled people

Abuse Wave 9 - 2006 - Post-Campaign Evaluation - this report provides
a post-campaign evaluation of the 2005/6 Domestic Abuse advertising campaign

Longview has announced the completion of a strategic review
for ESRC of panel
and cohort studies . Two other major projects are underway: one on the
changing nature of ‘cognitive capital’ across cohorts, and across
the life course, and the other concerned with solutions to the problem of
attrition.
National Institute for Health and Clinical
Excellence (NICE) publish Review of grey literature on drug prevention among
young people.
The Canadian Health Services Research Foundation supports the evidence-based management of Canada's healthcare system by facilitating knowledge transfer and exchange - bridging the gap between research and healthcare management and policy. The website includes key research themes, research in progress and final research reports.
