New GSR Code launched
The Government Social Research Unit has published a new Government Social Research (GSR) Code which will underline to clients, sponsors and others the quality and professionalism of the Service’s people and output.

- National Evaluation of the Capacity Building Programme for Local Government: Overall Final Report - The Local Authority Capacity Building Programme was launched in 2003 to support capacity building and improvement activities in English local authorities. This report describes the findings from a three year evaluation of the programme.
- Delivering Safer Neighbourhoods: Experiences from the New Deal for Communities Programme - Delivering Safer Neighbourhoods: Experiences from the New Deal for Communities Programme. The Government has assisted deprived neighbourhoods through the New Deal for Communities (NDC) Programme, launched in 1998. It is designed to encourage delivery of local services in a coordinated way to meet local needs, and aims to narrow the gap between these 39 areas and the rest of the country. This report presents the findings on interventions and outcomes under the theme of crime and community safety.

- Public Attitudes to Broadcasting in Scotland - Research was commissioned by the Scottish Government to assist the Scottish Broadcasting Commission in their investigations of the role for broadcasting in Scotland’s cultural life and broadcast journalism in Scotland.

- Youth homelessness in the UK - The report looks at the effectiveness of policy developments implemented over the last decade to address youth homelessness.
- Impact of benefit and tax uprating on incomes and poverty - Each year, the Government decides how much to raise benefits and tax allowances. The basis for these upratings is rarely debated, yet has major long-term consequences for the relative living standards of different groups and for public finances. This research considers the implications of present uprating policies, and aims to stimulate debate on this hidden area of policy-making.

- Mapping social cohesion - This report provides insights into community attitudes to immigration, multiculturalism and social cohesion, based on findings from especially commissioned national and local surveys. Topics include: our sense of belonging, how happy we are, how satisfied we are financially, and how much we trust in politicians, public institutions and other people.
The report also examines complex attitudes to immigration and multicultural society, including assistance to ethnic groups, and levels of discrimination, and the degree of disaffection in our community.
