6. Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- formulate researchable problems
- critically evaluate published research
- articulate links between policy questions, research design and research methods
- critically and selectively apply knowledge of research design and methods to their research questions
- understand and apply a range of research methods and tools
- understand how to carry out data collection foregrounding the importance of the research question in this process
- carry out data analyses, both quantitative and qualitative, foregrounding the importance of the research question or model in this process
- systematically review and evaluate published research and understand whether it contributes to evidence-based policy making
- complete a 10,000 word report based on a substantive or methodological topic, which shows understanding of the above list of learning outcomes.
