I started working for the Home Office on a casual contract as a Research Officer in January 2004. I was based in a regional research team at Government Office North West (Manchester). The post involved interpreting regional crime statistics, conducting crime-related research and disseminating best practice. My experience prior to this was conducting criminological research in the academic environment (3 years) having studied for a BSc in Sociology and an MSc in Criminology at Cardiff University
In Sept 2004 I started a permanent Research Officer post in the Immigration Research and Statistics Service (Home Office), based in Croydon. I work in a team that conducts longitudinal research on refugees and am currently conducting work on the feasibility and development of a large-scale survey that will involve using quantitative and qualitative data to gauge how refugees experience settlement in the UK .
I have attended various training courses since I started this post including research and general in-house training. I have also been to several seminars/ conferences on the topic of immigration. Such events have given me the opportunity to further my personal development and increase my knowledge of the subject, along with networking with fellow researchers/colleagues. I look forward to further developing my research career in a high profile and demanding environment.
